Principio – IGT Maremma Toscana Ciliegiolo
Grapes: Ciliegiolo 100%
Vines: only two hectares of olf vines, near the village of Manciano, 200 m ASL, in an area locally known because it has always produced “vino bono” (good wine).
Vinification: fermentation and aged a few months in stainless steel temperature controlled vats.
Notes: ripe red cherry and plum, very fresh and vivid. Medium body, meaty and supple, medium refreshing finish. Ciliegiolo grape has been cultivated for centuries in Maremma, but only recently, following DNA analysis, it has been possible to demonstrate a strong parent/offspring correlation with the more famous Sangiovese grape. It is one of the most important component of the Morellino di Scansano blend, but we believe that it can be an excellent wine in his own right.
