Fonte 40 – IGT Maremma Ansonica / Vermentino
Grapes: Ansonica (Inzolia) 50 % – Vermentino 50%
Vinification: fermented in larger oak casks (25 Hl) with temperature control for 2/3 weeks and aged there for another 8 months. After bottling the wine rests in bottle for 4 months before being released on the market.
Notes: Ansonica, a greek grape, similar to Roditis, has been cultivated in this area since the Roman time and, along with Vermentino, represents the indigenous white grape variety. Vermentino is more floral, with notes of herbs, sage, rosemary, sometimes with ageing we can find some light notes of licorice too.Ansonica has a more structured body, with some tannins too to constitute the backbone of the wine. The wine is elegant and refreshing, with the right acidity and a slightly saline twist. Notes of oak, from large nearly neutral oak cask ageing, add to the complexity. Drink after 1 year after harvest, but it can keep for another 3/4 years.
