Finisterre IGT Maremma Toscana

Grapes: Cabernet Franc 40%, Syrah 30%, Alicante bouschet 30%

Vines: the best estate vineyards, located in the Comune di Scansano (250 m ASL, North-West, North-East, limestone soils, rich in pebbles, 5680 p/Ha). Production per plant 1 kg of grapes. Vineyards are 10-15 km from the Mediterranean coast, with Mediterranean climate, characterized by moderate winters and sunny, dry and warm spring and summer. Organic growing in conversion since 2009.

Vinification: fermented in open top 25 Hl oak casks with frequent punching down and delestages. Skin maceration for a month. Ageing in french oak 225 Lt barrels for up to 18 months. The wine is bottled without filtration or stabilisation.

Notes: Finisterre, the Landsend, which is, for us, the Mediterranean Sea, with its strong influence on the style of our wines. The Cabernet Franc here is less vegetal, more fruity than in cooler climates, with blackberry, blackcurrant and cassis aromas, accompanied by smoky notes. Elder flower aromas can come from the Alicant buschet, whikst the Syrah provides the backbone and tannins, which are velvety and fine grained. Very pronounced flavours and a rich velvety finish for a full bodied, rich and complex wine. Drink it after 3/4 years from the harvest, can hold for 10+ years.

Unfortunately I don’t think you may find it easily in the Netherlands. It’s just a small production. Sorry about it.

My friend David Temperini di Follonica and me are just talking about these wines and checking the possibilities to get this wine, among others, on the dutch market.
