Bucce – IGT Maremma Toscana Ansonica
Grapes: Ansonica (Inzolia) 100%
Vineyards: up on the hills near Pitigliano (400 m ASL)
Vinification: traditional, for a week with skin contact during fermentation. The wine is then matured in concrete vats and old 500 lt oak barrels for 18 months, with frequent stirring of the lees and bottled without any filtration or stabilisation.
Notes: This is the indigenous grape variety of Maremma, originally coming from Greece, it resembles Roditis variety, also used for Retzina wines. Perfectly adapted to the Mediterranean coast, it can survive on steep terraces at just a few metres from the sea. Nicely structured, with some tannins coming both from the old oak and the skin contact, it develops complex notes of herbs, citrus, orange peel, herbs and licorice, Let it breath in the glass for a few minutes and enjoy it not too cold. The wine can be enjoyed now, but it can keep for at least 3/4 years, developing more tertiary aroma and flavours that will enhance its complexity.
